Surf Party – July 28, 2007

Surf’s up! Every Saturday here at Play2Relax, I will be having a Surf Party to share some cool links I’ve found. Today’s surf party is all about brain training games! Is your brain all flabby and weak? Can’t remember what you had for dinner last night? Does your brain need a workout? Grab a board and let’s hit the brainwaves!

The concept of the brain training game came from a collaboration between Nintendo and Dr. Ryuta Kawashima, author of the book, Train Your Brain: 60 Days to a Better Brain. Dr. Kawashima has an interesting website you can visit at Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old is Your Brain? and you can also read a related article at CBSNews.

Brain Training puts players on a daily regimen of number games, word puzzles and reading exercises designed. It also lets players test their intelligence levels through IQ-type quizzes. It saves the results so progress can be tracked or compared with others.

I’ve never played this game but it does seem interesting. I wish my cell phone games were this cool.

Braingle is a nice site to investigate brain training.

If you crave a brain teaser, mind puzzle, riddle or game, we are the place to get it. Increase your creativity, boost learning and become a better person at Braingle. Get ready to have your brain tangled!

I tried a few of the games and found them very interesting, but I’m not sure if I’m a better person because of it.

Yehuda, is one of my new favorites. He recently wrote a review of a toy that claims to boost your brain creativity. Check it out at Roger von Oech’s Ball of Whacks.

The Advanced Vega Society has an impressive resource of links and activities related to brain training. One of the activities that was given to help improve brain creativity was called Silversphere which is free and available from Miniclip Games.

Strangely enough, Miniclip has an entire section of games that are classified as Brain Training Games, but do not list Silversphere as one of the games. Frankly, I don’t care. I liked the game. My brain liked the game.
