This is the table of contents for a series of posts about the games that have won the Spiel des Jahres, or the German “Game of the Year.” The award was created in 1978 and has typically honored family style board games.
As each review is posted or updated, I will link back to this landing page so that you can have a comprehensive list in a single location. Many of the winners of the Spiel des Jahres are games that I have in my collection, but some of the older games are difficult to find. If I have already reviewed one of the games, then I will update the content of that review to point back to this series, but I will not modify the posting date of the original review. I will also place a next to a link to show that a post is new or updated.
My goal is to finish this series before the announcement of the 2013 award. Of course, it will continue on beyond that, but I will give myself some time to catch up.
July 2013 Update: Ha! Epic fail. I didn’t even get close to finishing all of them by the 2013 announcement. What I meant was that I would finish before the 2014 announcement.
August 2014 Update: Mega Epic fail. Still not finished, but I’m getting close.
May 2017 Update: Okay, seriously, I will finish this in 2018. I mean it this time.
If you can help me find or play some of the older games, I would appreciate your help. Also, if you have any suggestions for games that I need to try right now, please leave your suggestions in the comments on this link page. If you have comments regarding a particular Spiel des Jahres winner, please make comments on the post for that game.
