New Game Design Frustration

I have a few games that I’ve been working on for the past year. None of them have gotten to the prototype phase, but one of the games I was the most excited about has some competition, at least in terms of theme.

I have another site called, secretundergroundlair.com. It’s a humor site, where I write from the perspective of a super-villain. I’ve always been fascinated by super-villains.

I created a game where the players take on the roles of a super-villain as they play the game. It still needs some work, but the game is shaping up very well.

White Wolf recently released a game called, Mwahahaha, a card game where the players take on the role of a super-villain.

I don’t know anything about the mechanics of the game, but it doesn’t sound anything like the game I’m working on, other than the fact that it deals with super-villains. However, it just bugs me a little. I know it shouldn’t, but it does. If I finish my game, and start shopping it around, will this be what it’s measured against? Will it look like I’m trying to copy this thing?

I’m considering buying Mwahahaha just so I can see how my game is different, but I don’t know if that’s such a good idea.
