I’ve been unable to play anything for the last week or so, but I did find a very fun game to play on my phone. Battleheart has an RPG feel to it, but it’s more of a real-time battle game using classic RPG characters and monsters.

I’m not usually a fan of real-time games, but this really is a lot of fun. There isn’t much of a story to Battleheart. Some kingdom needs help and you play the role of heroes that go out and fight monsters and get rewards. I don’t know if it’s the kingdom that’s paying you for killing monsters or if you are looting their lair once you are done killing them. I guess it doesn’t really matter. I like this game mainly because the gameplay is simple and the graphics are cute.

I wouldn’t enjoy this as much if the characters were realistic or the fights were graphic or scary. The┬ácharacters are super cute. Even the monsters are cute. There’s a cyclops troll creature that’s so cute I let him chase my guys around for a little bit before I hack him to pieces and then disintegrate him with magical fire. I’m the adventurer that cares.

Eventually, you earn enough gold and experience to start improving your characters. You can do this by training them at the Academy and by visiting the Armory and the Merchant to equip items you may have found, to buy items from the merchant, or just upgrade the items that you have.

You can put together different teams of heroes, which is a nice way to keep things fresh. Each hero has a different set of abilities and strengths. You can have a few saved games going at the same time, so I think it’s better to make your teams different in each game, rather than trying to keep everyone at a similar level in the same game.

Overall, a great little game for a good price. I looks great on my iPhone 4. I don’t know what it would look like on an iPad. Check it out and see what you think.
